Summary of the 2017/2018 season

Dear friends!

In Denmark, the 2018 World Championship came to its conclusion. Our team played well, but in the quarter-final, we lost to Canada. Without a doubt, it's always disappointing to emerge on the losing side in such a clash. However, we, as fans, should admit that we live for such matches. It was a game full of nerves, tension and Russia managed to come back three times, showing character in the process. That is our style of game.

We shouldn't look for excuses, we have failed to win a medal at the World Championship for the first time in a number of years. Nevertheless, we can't call the season a failure, because we won the Olympic Games. It was an historic event we happened in front of our eyes. The Olympic Games in South Korea will live in the memory for a long time, especially given that other factors did not prevent Russia from showing its strength and quality.

Concerning the World Championship, I agree with ice hockey specialists, this year our competitors were very strong. On the other hand, we had trouble forming our roster, a number of players couldn't participate. Our team is also a lot younger with the 2022 Olympic Games in mind. When the team is being refreshed with newer players, it always takes time, I witnessed that for myself.

I would like to point out the Russian national team's new coaching staff. I want to not only talk about Ilya Vorobyov, but take a look at his assistants which were under pressure at the World Championship. The management displayed the ability to create an ambitious team and proved that they all have real potential. They have a lot of work ahead of them.

The 2017/2018 ice hockey season is over, but in a few days, an important competition for the junior national team will start - the Black Sea Cup. The road to the 2019 World Junior Championship has already started. Valery Bragin and his assistants have revealed the list of players called up to the training camp, and two separate Russian teams will compete at the Black Sea Cup along with Switzerland and Denmark. The players need to perform well and show their talent. I am sure we will see the strongest at the 2019 World Junior Championship in December in Canada.
