Friendly match. Russia - Canada White - 5:3
Having arrived in Sault Ste. Marie, the under 17 Russian national team played a friendly match against Canada White, a fellow competitor of the upcoming World Challenge Cup.
As always against Canada, it turned out to be a real battle. Canada took the lead, but Grigory Nesvetaev and Grigory Denisenko gave Russia the advantage not lont afterwards. It went down the wire, and a double from Andrei Svechnikov, as well as an Alexander Khovanov marker, sealed a big 5:3 Russian win!
Igor Efimov, Russia under 17 interim head coach:
- The score isn't quite what we were hoping for. We conceded the first goal because of an individual mistake, but we managed to equalise and then take the lead. The game became a lot more difficult when we took a lot of penalties. After the match, I told the guys that we need to play differently. Nevertheless, I congratulate everyone with the win. We will train for two more days before the tournament's start.
- How did the training camp in Toronto go?
- We have had excellent facilities, the right ice size was given to us. We played a friendly game against a team one year older than us and managed to win 3:0. That game was better than today's, and overall, I can say that we have done everything which we wanted to do.
